Books!

We read. Probably more than the average person. Sometimes people ask us what they should read, so we figured we would provide this handy list of recommended books. We've also put together a long list of interesting websites. That page is usually out-dated, but contains enough good info that it is still worth visiting. Our books lists (below) may or may not stay up to date, time will tell. For each section, there are multiple "pages", just click on the numbers at the bottom. For most browsers you can hover over a given title and it'll give you some more information about the book.

Let's start with good old fiction. These aren't necessarily our favorite books of all time, but they represent a cross-section of stuff we've enjoyed. We had so much detective fiction that I had to make a new section for it- scroll down if that's what you like to read.

Here are essays and other non-fiction type books that we have also enjoyed. We are always happy to find good non-fiction writing- all the pleasure of reading fiction, but you actually learn something, too!

Guidebooks and travel writing. There is some overlap with other sections, possibly even duplicate titles. Such is life. When we are traveling we tend to grab compilations or essays as they are easy to put down quickly if you need to pay attention or if you just have a few minutes to kill while waiting for something else.

This is probably where we waste more time reading than any other genre. Full of gratuitous violence and the seedy underbelly of imaginary worlds. Usually the lone detective out to conquer his own demons by fighting someone else's. Also some laywer fiction too, basically the same stuff. There is an element of guilt in our pleasure at reading this stuff- we tend to like it pulpy and predictable. Most of these are good airplane or beach reading.
